create shortcuts on your desktop by clicking the program you wish to create a shortcut of, and right-clicking and dragging that icon to the desktop. When letting go of the mouse button you should have an option to create a shortcut here.

If you want to put a website link on your desktop. Right click on the desktop. A drop down will open. Click on new then shortcut. When the window opens paste the address of the site you want to make a shortcut to. Then just follow the instructions in the following windows.

You can also create program shortcuts in the same manner.

You can right click on the file or folder and from the menu select Desktop (create shortcut).
